And that is what we are going to think about for a while here. That is step one. The will of command is revealed in the Bible decisively, authoritatively, infallibly. What you need in order to discern what will happen tomorrow is not a renewed mind, but a crystal ball. You contradicted it, cancelled it. At the same time, we know the kinds of things that please God–the fruit of the Spirit, generosity, forgiveness, humility, etc. It is personal to us. So make me new. While Becca and I sought God’s will on going to Korea, we were in constant communication with our pastors and close, trusted friends. Many of your desires have already been addressed in the Bible. Here are a few ways to know if we're in God's will: 1) We obey the Word of God Another example is Colossians 3:10: “You have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” You have already put on the new person. Now that is a process for the rest of your life, but here is a few pointers and we will be done. First John 2:17 says, “The world is passing away and all of its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” Some do, some don’t. Chapter 4: One Step at a Time. Pointer one: Ephesians 4:23 says, “Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” Not just in your mind and the spirit of your mind. I mean verse two of Romans 12 says, “Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” So, you are already new — now get new! I have got a couple of reasons for why I think that. Hebrews 13:20, 21 — “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will , working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. What God decrees happens, including all the bad things in the world. He will be useless. It includes God’s desires, but his will is far bigger and more complex. He does not want you to know what is going to happen tomorrow. There is no virtue in seeing tomorrow’s events in a crystal ball. The invitation is not for us to live FOR God but WITH him. It looks like you value God more than power. What if What We Saw at the Capitol Is Us? Become A Contributor. The following is a lightly edited transcript. It says, “Be renewed in your minds.” Now I have got to step back and get a little Pauline theology in here so that “being renewed” is understood in the context of what has really happened to you, Christians. The will of God did not happen in your life, because you looked. You must choose many things that are not specifically covered in the Bible. If God could not plan the murder of his Son we could not be saved. And he doesn’t mean the first time. “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This community disciples and holds us accountable. The disciple will understand the ways that God can help them when they make honest mistakes. This covers what the Lord desires us to do today in our current situation. Matthew 10:29: “Not one sparrow falls to the ground apart from our Father in heaven.” Proverbs 16:33: “The lot, the dice, are cast in the lap and every decision is from the Lord.” In Reno, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, every dice rolled God decides what turns up. And we need to be changed. How God Shows the Way. Ephesians 1:11 is the most sweeping statement of all in this regard to the sovereign will of God. The Bible doesn’t tell you where to take a vacation. A better way - and perhaps more biblical - is to live a life consistent with the biblical truth you do know and then expect God to show you what you do not know. The Bible instructs believers to examine themselves, but does it tell us to what extent or how often we should question our salvation? Frustrated, I thought we weren’t going. You could lose your job. You need a God who disapproves of the ugliness and you need a God who ordains that all things come to pass and is so sovereign he can take everything — including that — and work it for good. What the Bible says: “I will protect him because he knows my name. Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” What does that mean? Try as you would to forget it, you could not get it off your mind. maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. One is that God does not intend for us to know most of his sovereign will ahead of time. You couldn’t live your life that way. What is good, acceptable and perfect in his view for you to do this afternoon? The invitation is not for us to live FOR God but WITH him. That is how the Holy Spirit does it. If you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit?” (Luke 11:13). No silly little sparrow falls, nor does a letter come out of the bag apart from God’s will. Returning to the New Testament teaching on marriage, we may not know the details of if or when or who, but we do know that we shouldn’t choose to marry an unbeliever when we are a Christ-follower (2 Cor 6:14). That those two things are in the Bible corresponds to profound longings and needs that you have in moments of crisis and loss. And it begins with a glorious “therefore” (“I appeal to you therefore”). We have a Father above, who is controlling all things. That is what worship is: showing God’s value, supreme value over all other things. You don’t kill the Son of God without sin. The other one is often not done and contradicted. Pilate did what God predestined to take place. That this how deeply we need to be renewed. In Acts 4:27–28, the church is praying in wonder to the sovereign God that has just ordained the death of his Son, they pray like this: Truly in this city, Jerusalem, there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed both Herod, Pontius Pilate, all the Gentiles, the peoples of Israel to do what your hand and plan had predestined to take place. It is not like Jesus just jumped up on the cross and died and God said, “Well, I didn’t know that was going to happen. They didn’t want to see us go, but they confirmed God’s call on our life and sent us with blessing. Other disciples will see things about us we don’t, our gifts and spiritual impacts in ways we can’t. When Jesus was baptized, he went under the water for us — so that he might represent us, and so that we might be with him forever. The Bible will confirm God’s will. Another example of this will is found in 1 Thessalonians 4:3 which says, “This is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality.” Have you? 3. It doesn’t call for mere change your external behavior. A bruised reed he will not break (Isaiah 42:3). He met alone with God, and he went to the synagogue to be with other Jewish believers (Luke 4:16; Mark 1:35). The core of the Christian life is to learn how to know God’s will for our lives personally and intimately. So you are at work and something is being discussed about a policy. “Don’t look at pornography” — that is the will of God. How will I know if my decisions are the Father’s will? So what are you praying for? The disciple will learn some things that are involved in knowing God’s will for themselves. Jesus doesn’t leave us there, thankfully. Whoever needs to win, for humility or encouragement, you know. To know the will of God, we should be so submitted to His Spirit that we can hear Him when He leads us. 1. But we had to hear His voice for exactly where. It’s natural to want to know all of God’s will at once, but that’s not how He usually works. I can’t do anything FOR God. We must cling to his voice and his person. Which is it? She was right. Think of pros and cons and you do them. But now we have got some renewing to do. The Bible will not tell you what person to marry. In closing: How does the Holy Spirit do that? This is the story God is telling. All you need is a crystal ball and some tie in with the devil to do that. The hatred of the mobs stirred up by the Pharisees: “Crucify him.” That is all sin. Now there is another meaning for the term “will of God” that we probably use more often. If we will consider ourselves living sacrifices, submitting what I want and my plans to God’s love and his plan, THEN I will learn to know God’s will, which is good and complete. Some of you know what it is to have an inner urging of an undefinable nature—an urging that you just could not shake off! First, I want to show you that these two wills are in the Bible. He is making a bad choice. That makes sense, right? But then he says, “Your will be done,” meaning, you have got a plan. You are saying that God’s sovereign will that always comes to pass includes sin? He just means over and over again. He will call on me, and I will answer him.”—Psalm 91:14, 15. He’s already leading you to the life that will give you the most eternal, extravagant joy, despite what it looks in the middle of the story. So start here. This is the way to go. So when he says, “be renewed”, he doesn’t mean something like: “Get something good started in your life.” A miracle has happened. They want to know the reason for the hope that is in you. The rest of your life and you are going to make hundreds and hundreds of actions between now and the time you go to bed tonight that are just going to flow out of you, like Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks and you will give an account for every idle word.” And you didn’t plan 95 percent of them. The mind doesn’t just have thoughts. The condition of an enlightened mind is a surrendered heart. Yes. And it was all sin. Another example of this is Acts 4:27–28. Leaving was difficult. Here are my strengths and my weaknesses, my assets and my liabilities. God’s Immediate Will. I need to be more loving, more joyful, more patient, more kind, more good, more self-controlled. The Spirit of God resides in us both individually and corporately as the Body of Christ. Use God’s name. But also, in a community of faith. We must be intentional to reach out and invest in close, trusted spiritual friendships within the Body of Christ. Then show His love and His forgiveness to others, through the work of the Holy Spirit in both your and their lives. Some people thought we were crazy. And that is a work of the Holy Spirit. Now which one is meant in verse two of Romans 12? Even Jesus said in John 5:30, “I of myself can do nothing.”How can I? There is a spirit of your mind, a spirit that loves or hates what the will of God appears to be in the knowledge of mind. Romans 12:2 Introduction: Many people desire to know the will of God. So if you have a job, do your job in a way that shows that Christ is supremely valuable. Now you are being renewed. Discern the will of God. And I thought through how I should pray. “It is better to suffer for doing good if that should be God’s will.” Now what does that mean? God looks infinitely worthy when others look at you. One need is to believe God hates what happened there. God is not a sinner. Decisions! So step number two in penetrating through to the will of God’s command as it applies to the things where he didn’t make it explicit is you have got to have a new mind shaped by the rest of Scripture so that when you come to those decisions there is a readiness to see and do the will. And this is what it was all building towards: new minds discerning the will of God and lives of worship. He will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him. Think of those nine fruits. And in your pain you shoved him so far to the edge of the universe that for the rest of your life you are crying out to a God to do miracles yet you have pushed him away. You just do it. Grace is found in the Word of God, now the Person of Jesus (John 1:17). Like a legal document we call a will, there is power and authority to ensure that his desires and instructions are carried out. The Bible does not tell you which car to drive. It says, “In him [Christ] we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things [I take that literally] according to the council of his will.”. The most obvious answer to the question, “How can I know God’s will for my life?” is to ask Him. We are not trying to be children of God or get into God’s favor, we are in his favor rock solid through faith in Christ. Or I think I will be anxious here. And before I show you the answer that I think is there, let me comment on how precious it is to have these two truths. Number two. Color-coding Bible verses by subject matter can help when you need to know wisdom for specific issues like relationships or finances. To know the heart of God, a person must read His Word, for that is God’s revelation of Himself and His message to all. . No. You see, when we get to know God—really know Him—it fills us with hope and confidence because we realize He’s greater than any situation we will ever encounter. These five ways will teach us to know God’s will and live in the fullness of joy with him. Suppose you were abused as a child and it has borne sad fruit for many years. His will is guaranteed. A couple of other examples, 1 Peter 3:17 says, “It is better to suffer for doing good if that should be God’s will than for doing evil.” It is better for you to suffer for doing good. God knows who needs to win. In fact, it says in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for correction, for reproof, for training in righteousness that the man of God may be fully equipped for every good work.” Wow. From Matthew 7 quoted above, the person Jesus is talking to was surprised. He is already full of joy that you walk with him. God is not a masochist. Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. And then, He clears the way. Therefore, we have two meanings of the will of God in the Bible. Might watch a ball game, might take a nap, and you think them through. How to Really Know the Will of God Related Media. They are more than just interesting, they are precious. You are now called — built on justification by faith alone and accepted on the basis of the righteousness of Christ alone — to offer sacrifices to God in your body that please him, sacrifices that he smiles upon. God’s will is not only legal, authoritative, and universal, it is relational by necessity. He remembers we are dust (Psalm 103:14). That means when you spoke the manager, who now is in trouble, because you just exposed the evil of what was about to happen, he could be hindered by God from firing you or he could look at this and say, “I permit you to fire him.” And he fires you. The Time Is Now. I must be willing to give up my expectations (based on my limited vision) for God’s will, even if it seems like a sacrifice. The way to know the will of God for the rest of your life is to do the will of God right now — obey what you already know. "For we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit . And what you think is happenstance is God's plan and God's way to guide you. I pray that by reading this, you'll find that out. He is telling us to look for his will of command. Finally, we will try to answer how we get our minds renewed so that we can live in God's will. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. I call this first will the will of decree. He is author of. And he is acting upon us. With that basis, let us return to verse two. That is what life is for, to live your life in such a way that by what you say, what you think, what you feel, what you do with your arms and your lips and your eyes and your legs and your hands, all will show he is more valuable than anything. You do what is good. We must believe he is out for our good. But verse two will solve it. The ones we share with intimately shouldn’t be a big group. The Gospel Paul preached to all people, Jew and Gentile is God’s plan for the reconciliation of all things to the Father through the Son (1 Cor.15:23-28). Chapter 3: He Will Be Our Guide. When God is speaking to you about something, He will often confirm it to somebody else. Living with God and not for him is the foundation of everything that follows. Take the Bible and you pray for renewed mind that knows how to discern how all of the things that are revealed here will produce a godly decision. But we do need those trusted spiritual voices in our lives. They speak in terms of "finding the will of God" and think of it as if they need to hit a bull's eye on a target.
